The Toothfairy's First Visit

I believe it was around the beginning of August that I first noticed Kyndall had a loose tooth.  I was surprised because if my dental hygiene memory serves me correctly, she's slightly ahead of schedule.  What surprised me even more was the fact that this is the same kid who didn't have a single tooth in her head until she was well over a year old!  I assumed since she was late getting them, she'd also be late losing them.  Nonetheless, we were excited!

Over the next few weeks and months the tooth became more and more mobile until last week when I was convinced it was time to yank it out!  She could practically lay the thing horizontal and make it stick straight out of her mouth yet she claimed it wasn't ready to come out.  We tried a few methods but she kept getting all dramatic so I finally just gave up and resolved that it would come out when it couldn't possibly hang on any longer!

The "just pull it out" method.....

The "tie it to a car" method....

None of them worked.

Last Monday (9/28) she was eating a sandwich for lunch when suddenly she realized she had lost the tooth!  Her excitement didn't last long and the tears quickly came as she realized the unthinkable had happend---She SWALLOWED the tooth with her sandwich!  Oh the drama, oh the tears.  I am not joking when I tell you she cried for the rest of the afternoon.  She was SO disappointed that she didn't even get a chance to see the tooth she had been working on for so many weeks.  She even told me over and over again that her belly hurt because she could feel the tooth inside of her.  She was also very concerned that the Toothfairy would not visit her since there was no tooth to offer.  I assured her she was not the first child this has happened to and we agreed to write the Toothfairy a note explaining the situation.

Maybe she'll appreciate this in 20 years but on this day she was quite mad at me for taking pictures of her while she sobbed!

Many hours later I finally got a smile out of her!

I know it has to happen, but I am not a fan of the awkward toothless stage!

Getting everything perfectly set up for the Toothfairy's arrival later that night

This tooth pillow was given to me at one of Kyndall's baby showers before she was born.  Too bad we didn't have a tooth to put in it!  Oh well, maybe next time.

Matthew was out of town all last week which meant she had the rare and special privilege of sleeping in our bed with me.  This made the Toothfairy's job a lot easier that night!!

The next morning she couldn't wait to go check out what the Toothfairy had left in her bedroom

She was most impressed with the pink fairy dust that was left behind in the shape of a heart.  Today, one week later, that heart shaped fairy dust is still sitting perfectly on her dresser.  She absolutely will NOT let me move it.

The Toothfairy left a little more money than she normally does to make up for the emotional trauma and the pain and suffering Kyndall endured in swallowing her tooth.

Naming out everything she wants to buy with her money.....

One down, 19 more to go!  Let's hope the next 19 are slightly less dramatic than the first one was!
