Upward Football Fall 2017

The Fall of 2017 brought about a new activity for Kyndall...Gymnastics.  After being in dance since she was barely 3 years old she decided it was no longer her "thing" and preferred instead to give gymnastics a try.  My heart was pretty sad to see her give up dance since I was a dancer all the way through high school, but she is her own person and must find her own talents, abilities and passions and my job is simply to encourage and foster those gifts.

She cheered with Upward for the 2017 basketball season and did really well at it so I encouraged her to sign up for the football season and she agreed to do so.  Cheer was "ok" in her opinion but definitely not her favorite thing.  She finished out the season and did not want to do it again....at least for now.  Although I loved watching her each week I must say I will not miss those early Saturday morning games!

Here are a few pictures from our Fall 2017 season....

First practice was also the first day of school which made for a long and tiring day!

My favorite thing about Upward is the way that the coaches pour the word of God into these girls.  Everything they do is based on scripture and the girls even have Bible verses to memorize each week.  On this day Coach Melissa was praying with the girls after their devotional time and each girl prayed aloud, thanking God for something in their lives.

First game!  Don't be fooled by my "uniform"...I was definitely not a coach, just the snack mom!  HA!

At the end of each game every girl receives a sticker for their participation and depending on how they did that day determines which sticker they earn.  The stickers represent things like effort, spirit, leadership, Christ-likeness, etc.

End of year Upward celebration and awards ceremony

Kyndall gave each of her coaches a card and a bouquet of flowers as a way of saying thank you for all of the time, effort and love they poured into the team each and every week.

I can now retire my "snack mom" uniform....At least until she decides she wants to give cheer another shot, which I'm hoping she does!

A few comparison pictures from her first year of cheering in Medina, Tennessee (2015) to present on the right.  She looks like such a baby on the left!
