So long, Summer--August 2018

We returned home from our amazing week long cruise vacation with exactly three weeks until the start of school. This chick definitely took advantage of her last few weeks of sleeping late, with her record being 12:45 pm!

Awake but still in her sleepy stupor at almost 1:00 pm. I was absolutely dreading the idea of getting her up everyday at 6:00 am in just a few weeks!

We crammed in as much summer fun as possible during the last few weeks of freedom, including lots of trips to the neighborhood pool...

Lunch and movie dates with friends...

Shopping trips...
(no, I did not let her buy all of those, despite her begging!)

We also did some much needed purging and reorganizing of the playroom
(Can you spot the two dogs in this photo?)

We upgraded her craft room from the tiny wooden table she's been sitting at since she was a toddler to a bigger desk and a new chair

More pool time with friends...

Facetime with Grammy

A couple weeks before school started we began shopping for new school uniforms, shoes, school supplies, a new backpack and a new lunchbox. She chose this reversible backpack and I thought it was just screaming for a monogram so we made it happen!

These were screaming for monograms too....

She lived in flip flops all summer long so we had to buy several new pairs of school shoes.

The last week before school started was all about Kyndall. I told her we'd do whatever she wanted and the first thing on her requests list was a pizza night.

Followed by a game of BINGO

She wanted donuts for breakfast....

And to sleep in our bed, which only happened because Daddy was out of town.

We had a few rainy days and she was finally able to wear her cute new raincoat.

She requested a shortbread cookie from Panera. Shes's loved these since she was a toddler and I used to bribe her with them if she'd behave during ballet class in Jackson! Ha! Now she gets them just because.

We practiced some new hair-do's for school

And they finally got in some skating time...their favorite!

Haircuts for these two!

Doing her Bible study

Lazy boys

Over the summer our PTO decided we would paint inspirational messages on the bathroom stalls at the school. We think they turned out great!

Back to the dentist for this girl...Unlike most kids, she LOVES going because she is obsessed with the nitrous oxide and loves the "loopy" feeling she gets from it. Given her Mother's love for propofol, this is not surprising in the least.

She gets completely ridiculous when she's high on the gas! At least she kept her foot out of the dentist's FACE this time!

Next up...A back to school hair trim.
Before....

After...

Matching shades

So much sass

During one of our last trips to the pool we ended up with the whole thing to ourselves!

Pretty flowers make me happy so I frequently treat myself to them.

Finally, the long awaited "meet the teacher night" arrived and Kyndall was SO excited to see all of her friends and to find out who her teacher would be.

Kyndall and Ashlyn have been best friends since Kindergarten and they finally ended up in the same class. They were so excited!

Kyndall and Bailee

Her favorite subject!

She used her own money to buy "locker decor" which included a shag rug, a shelf, a dry erase board, magnets and a light up chandelier. I put my foot down when she wanted to buy locker wallpaper! Is this a dorm room or a second grade locker?! Either way she was very proud!

We were SOOOO excited to find out she got the teacher we had hoped for, Mrs. Colquette! Even in meeting her just once she already lived up to our expectations. I think it's going to be a great year!

Kyndall made her a whole bunch of crafts and goodies and she was so gracious to open each and every one of them and tell her how much she loved them.

At the end of last year I was elected to the PTO board as secretary. I have the best team to work with and together I know we will do great things for Crosby this year.

Malani, Ashlyn and Kyndall....I call them the bow squad!

Bring it on, 2nd grade!

A few more requests from Kyndall during her last week of freedom included eating ice cram in bed....

Making tie dye shirts....

Checking out the new neighborhood pool ....

Saturday morning breakfast date with Daddy.....

We bought a new toy for the whole family....The old school Nintendo which I spent hours of my life playing when I was her age.

More pizza....She made me take a picture of this "baby" piece

August 19th marked TWO YEARS since our family relocated to Texas. It's hard to believe it's already been that long.

I love small town living! Where else can you find the local high school band marching through your neighborhood on a Thursday evening??

On the evening before the first day of school as we were all feeling a little anxious and stressed, God gave us a beautiful rainbow to calm our fears and ease our minds.

August 20th was the first day of second grade! Gone were the days of sleeping in, wearing flip flops and tank tops, staying up late and spending our days as we wish. Back to alarm clocks, uniforms, packing lunches and early bedtimes. So long, summer!

Kyndall woke up excited and ready to face the day. She chose her favorite bow, a colorful necklace and was excited about wearing her new JoJo shoes and using her new backpack.

First day of school interview.....All smiles and so excited!

We love Crosby Elementary!

Forney firefighters and first responders were at the school greeting the kids and getting them excited about the first day. There was music and dancing and photo ops and it was the perfect way to start off a new school year!

Well of course I followed her to her classroom! She may be in second grade but I'll always be a helicopter mom!

The 3 besties were super excited to be reunited in the same class! God bless their teacher.

Sweet Malani

You know your Mom is a stalker when.....

I couldn't wait to pick her up and hear all about her day. She was beaming when she jumped into the car so I knew it had been a good day. She absolutely adores her teacher and was so eager to tell me all about her first day back.

Our traditional first day of school treat at Sweet Frog

A few comparison pictures from last year to this year

First day of Kindergarten vs first day of second grade. This one definitely made me weepy!

Growing up way too fast! It's hard for me to believe this is her third year in school.

All day long during the first day of school our pups ran around the house looking for Kyndall. I think they really missed her and wondered where she was and why the house was so quiet. So on the second day we decided to take Cam along with us for school drop off. He loves car rides--Huckabee does not so he stayed behind.

Third day of school and still smiling!

Each year our neighborhood lifestyle director organizes a "back to school breakfast on the go". This year the Star Wars characters were handing out the breakfast goodie bags!

Making banana bread for the first time after school

Not bad for our first attempt!

Fourth day of school! A little sleepy but still happy!

My message to Kyndall for the first week of school---And always!

Doing a little homework on Mommy's laptop

I love getting to see pictures of what she does throughout the day and her teacher is really good about posting them on the class Facebook page for us to see.

On this day she earned a stuffed animal pass for good behavior. She was allowed to bring her favorite stuffed animal to school and share about it with the class. She chose "Slush", her husky puppy.

Weekends look a lot different for us during the school year. We try to squeeze in as much family time as possible since we're separated from each other so much during the week. We took a walk around the neighborhood and saw this gorgeous sunset.

She was too tired to go to breakfast with Daddy so he went and fetched donuts instead. He's a good Daddy!

Silly dogs...

My whole heart in one picture

My nephew Easton turned a year old at the end of August and sadly we weren't able to make it back to Tallahassee for his party since school had already started. I was looking through pictures and couldn't help but see the similarities between Easton, my sister (his mommy) and myself.  I think it's definitely the cheeks! I've never seen any similarities between myself and Kyndall but I definitely see it in my sweet nephew!

Kyndall loves rock hunting and hiding around Forney and on this particular night she saw this one as we walked into Wal-Mart and it absolutely made her day!

She lost her 10th tooth and for the second time she SWALLOWED IT! We were hopeful that the tooth fairy would be as understanding as she was the last time this happened!

She left her this note, along with a peace offering consisting of some fall leaves she swiped from my decor! Stinker. Thankfully the tooth fairy was very forgiving and left her a generous reward despite the lack of evidence!

Friday lunches with these girls is the highlight of my week!

Our small group hosted family game night at the church and Kyndall was surprisingly good for her fist time playing these games....

August was a month of adjustments as we bid farewell to our care free summer lifestyle and found our new normal with a new school year and a new routine. The summer of 2018 was so good to us and we made memories that will last a lifetime. We're excited to see what this new school year will bring and looking forward to some exciting plans we have on the horizon, including a trip to DISNEY in November!
