This morning, I awoke to the beautiful sight of freshly fallen SNOW, covering everything in sight and making our yard look like a winter wonderland. I quickly went into Kyndall's room and told her to hurry up and get out of bed because I wanted to show her something. With wide eyes, she excitedly replied "Did Santa come??" We're still working on the whole "Christmas comes ONE day a year" concept, obviously.
She ran to the front window, looked out, took a big gasp and exclaimed "SNOW!" This was quickly followed by "Can I play in it??" I knew that was coming. I got her dressed and we headed out for as long as our Florida blood could stand the bitter cold. Keep in mind, this was our first morning back in Jackson, after spending 12 days in warm, sunny Tallahassee! Quite a shock to the system!
The rain/snow boots that Grammy and G-Daddy gave her for Christmas came in handy this morning!
She said it "burned her hands" to touch it, so I got her a giant spoon to scoop with! We are true Floridians at heart! If I could've found her beach buckets and shovels I would have given her those instead! =)
These were all taken early this morning when it first started falling but as the day has gone on, it's even thicker and prettier than it was when these were taken.
Everything on our street is covered in a beautiful blanket of white!
She got cold pretty quickly (no snow angels, snowball fights or snowmen for this girl), but asked if we could take some inside to play with it. It's just water, so I agreed.
View from our front door---so pretty!
She was happy just to play with it for a little while, but then the burning question came...."can I EAT it, Mommy??" What is it about the fluffy white stuff that makes it SO tempting? Since this snow was carefully extracted from the roof of her plastic play house, I told her to go for it. (No chance of yellow snow up there, right??)
I think she was a little disappointed in the taste, but still thought it was completely hilarious that she was allowed to eat it!
I've always heard of making snow cream, but I've never actually known what was involved or tried it myself. A quick Google search revealed that it's a simple mixture of milk, sugar, vanilla extract and snow, of course---all things I happen to have plenty of! So, we tried our hand at making our very first snow cream......
She was pleasantly surprised at the change in taste! "Dats GOOD, Mommy!" she said. And she's right---It's so yummy and SO easy! We both ate more of it than we probably should have, but we did manage to save some for Daddy to try tonight when he gets home from work.
And that's how we spent our first snow day of 2014!
Kyndall is now at a friend's house and I am getting ready to tackle the mounds of laundry that we brought home from our Christmas vacation, as well as get my house back in order after being gone for almost two weeks! Big thanks to Mrs. Pam for offering to take Kyndall off my hands for a few hours while I attempt to get this stuff done. I also have a ton of pictures (almost 400!) to share from our Christmas vacation, but that will have to wait for now. =(
Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
What excitement.....I love that sweet face.
