I suppose it had to happen eventually, but Matthew killed his first big deer of the season a couple weeks ago. He's killed deer before, but apparently in the world of big bucks this one was a monster. (I have no idea--I just pity the sweet innocent little things)
He called me all shaken up and excited and told me he was bringing it home because he wanted to show it to Kyndall. It was cold and dark so I bundled her up and grabbed my camera. Matthew was so excited as he walked her over towards the truck, ready to throw open the tailgate and show off his prize. Annnnnnd it totally freaked her out! She wanted nothing to do with it and actually started crying at one point when she saw the blood. Not exactly the reaction he was hoping for but hey, she's her mother's daughter and we love our animals!
We managed to get her to stand somewhat near the thing just for the sake of a few pictures. Once Matthew left to take the deer to the processor she hit me with a million questions!
"Mommy, why was his tongue hanging out?"
"Mommy, why were his eyes still open?"
"Mommy, where is Daddy taking him now?"
"Mommy, did he have any babies?"
As badly as Matthew wants to make her into his little hunting buddy, I have a feeling she's just too much of a softie! Anyway, congrats to Matthew on his kill. Even though I'm quite repulsed by the whole process, I try to be happy and proud since I know it's important to him. BUT.......The head of that thing is NOT hanging in my house. That's where I draw the line! No carcases allowed. He'll be proudly displaying his big buck on the wall of his office, and that's that!
I'm with you and Kyndall...poor Bambi!

Way to go Matthew!
ReplyDeleteNot hanging it in whose house??? Ask Rebecca how that worked out for her. ☺

You should see the herd that are in my house!! I think I have 11 in my great room....congrats to Matthew!
ReplyDeleteOne deer on the wall is too much for me but we compromised and everything dead/stuffed is in Justin's office at our house. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteBless his heart, he looks so proud. And she's standing much closer to the truck than I thought she'd be. Lol
ReplyDeleteNice one, Matthew!
