I mentioned on my blog a few weeks ago that our family had some exciting news to share, but that I wasn't quite ready to announce it yet. Somewhere around fifteen, I lost count of the number of texts I got saying "Are you pregnant?!?!" So very sorry to disappoint, but that is NOT our big news! Maybe someday soon, but not now.
Our big news is.........
After 5 years of marriage in 3 different states and 4 different houses, the Hughes are FINALLY buying our very first home!! We are so excited to finally be settling down and planting roots in a town that we absolutely love!
As excited as I am, I'm also pretty shocked at myself for agreeing to this. Actually, it was my idea....believe it or not! Everyone knows my ultimate goal is to get back closer to "home" and where our families are. Jackson is ten hours from there and while I really hate the distance, I absolutely adore Jackson and all it has already offered us in the ten short months we've lived here. I still long for the day when we get the opportunity to move closer to home, but who knows when that will be?? I feel like I've spent the past five years just wishing away time, waiting for something that may or may not ever happen. I've learned that life is way too short not to enjoy every single moment. To truly LIVE in the moment.....not for the future and the "maybes".
When we first moved to Jackson I thought to myself that I would just endure this time and make the best of it until we could get the heck out of here. Afterall, we went from living in Charleston which had so much to offer (not to mention it was only six hours from home), to a little town in West Tennessee which I had never even heard of. I'm happy to tell you that Jackson makes me FAR happier than I ever was in Charleston. The small town atmosphere is apparently exactly my style and I love the fact that everyone is so friendly and warm. I didn't always get that feeling in Charleston.
Above all else, we have made some of the most amazing, lasting friendships that I cannot imagine my life without now that I have them. We found a church home that we absolutely LOVE and we've just settled in and found ourselves extremely happy. Matthew is so pleased with his job and his new role as terminal manager is proving to be a perfect fit for him. With all that our family has been through this summer, I just can't imagine being anywhere else. We have been welcomed and loved on and showered with all kinds of blessings. Another very important factor that we considered is the fact that Vanderbilt is right next door in Nashville. It's very important that wherever we live, I have the best doctors possible to take care of me. I couldn't be happier with the care I've received at Vanderbilt.
So, with all of this in mind, we began just "looking" at houses to buy. This was all new to us, as we've never owned a home or been through the process and all that's involved. It was scary and exciting all at the same time.
I didn't mention any of this sooner because we were waiting on the inspection to go through. We knew we loved the house as soon as we saw it and in fact, it was the VERY FIRST one we ever looked at! Crazy, huh? We looked at soooo many, but both of our minds just kept coming back to this one for some reason. It's perfect for our family and we are so blessed to finally be able to call it OUR home!
Watch out, Jackson......The Hughes are here to stay!!!
(At least for a while!)
None of you have any excuse now not to come visit us! We will have five bedrooms and three of them will be empty, just waiting for visitors!!! Come see us!!!!
I am on my way....well...I will be on my way on 12/12/13!!!! I am so happy for ya'll. I am sad to know I have to travel ten hours, but it means more that ya'll are happy and feel 'at home' and that you have people there to love on you that are fabulous as the ones back home....maybe even more so!!! Can't wait to see it.

ReplyDeleteHow lovely and homey. So happy for this blessing for you ....as you have blessed others and unassumingly and humbly so. Thank you for being the encourager that you have been to so many different people, including myself. You have consistently directed our hope and thoughts on the One who is worthy of our praise. I thank God that I have a deeper and abiding friendship with you as a sister in Christ since your move. You have no idea the words of wisdom you have given through your FB posts and blogs that have reminded me of God's 1st and 2nd commandments. Thank you and hugs to you and your sweet family.
