It's no secret that I haven't been thrilled about approaching the big 3-0. I don't know why, but it just sounds so old to me and I've kinda had a hard time accepting it. I know age is just a number, but that's a BIG number in my opinion!
Matthew did a great thing by surprising me with a little one night getaway just for the two of us! He and my parents had been planning this for a few months, apparently. They all know me well enough to know that although I love surprises, I'm not good with last minute changes. So, on Friday Matthew gave me little heads up by telling me that I needed to have my bags packed and be ready to go by 11:00 Saturday morning. He didn't tell me where we were going but he assured me that my parents had everything under control including Kyndall and both of our dogs.
We ended up about two hours away in Savannah, which I love! He took me there for a surprise trip last year as well, but we had Kyndall AND both dogs with us! This time it was just the two of us and the whole trip was SO much more relaxing! Much needed considering just 24 hours prior I had learned that our lives were about to be turned upside down by a major move to Tennessee! Good timing for sure!
We stayed at the River Street Inn, right in the heart of Savannah and overlooking the famous River Street
The view from our balcony
The first thing we did after checking in at the hotel was walk to Paula Deen's to put our name on the list for dinner that night! We ate there last year and I knew I HAD to go back!!!!
Then we did some shopping on River Street........
Other than Paula Deen's, this is my second favorite place in Savannah!! The Savannah Candy Kitchen!
I really wanted some of this fudge.......
Until I saw the price!! My goodness, is it made with pure gold?!
The harbor looks almost identical to our own Charleston harbor
Even the market looks similar to ours!
That night we got all bundled up and went back down to River Street to watch the Christmas parade
I saw this in a gift shop and immediately thought of my sister's fiance Michael!!! You know the old saying "Give a man a fish and he has food for a day.....Teach a man to fish and he'll have food for a lifetime".
Finally, at 8:30 our reservation time arrived!! I think I ate my body weight in Paula's fried chicken, mac and cheese and sweet tea!!! I don't know what she puts in her food but it is out of this world!! Ok, yes I do ....... "Budda" (aka butter!!) Whatever it is, it's GOOD!
Sunday morning we checked out and met up with my parents to do the Kyndall trade-off at the Bass Pro Shop in Savannah. It's practically on my parents' way back home, so it only made sense to do a mid point rather than them waiting for us to drive all the way back to Summerville.
Matthew said he wants this recliner for Christmas. Don't hold your breath!
Fish!
We even found SANTA!!
Not a bit scared, she walked right up to him and sat in his lap!
She was very curious about his beard and his glasses
They had a nice little chat and she bid him goodbye with a great big hug! I love that she's not scared of him, or any other characters for that matter.
When we got home, I gave Kyndall her treat that we bought her in Savannah. Y'all know this girl loves her "pops" (lolipops) so when I saw this rock candy at the Savannah Candy Kitchen, I knew we had to get her some!
It was a great little getaway and just what I needed to help me relax.....a calm before the storm, so to speak! BIG thanks to Grammy and G-Daddy for holding down the fort while we were away! Although I frequently texted and/or called to check in, I knew she was in good hands and having a great time. Mom said she never once looked for us or asked about us! I'm not sure if that makes me happy or sad!

you deserved the 'get away'....I have never been to Savannah....probably won't ever get to go now but I look forward to Nashville, the mountains or wherever you take us next!!!
