On Monday the three of us made a last minute visit to Kyndall's pediatrician to talk to him about her reflux. I was so relieved when he finally agreed to put her on medication. She's never taken any type of medicine in her almost 7 months of life, so here's hoping all will go well. The only thing I've ever given her is gas drops, so I'm sort of nervous about putting medication into her system. However, I am SO happy that we might finally get some relief from the constant, never-ending reflux! I have never been so frustrated with anything in my entire life! Fingers crossed that we ALL get some relief soon!! Here are a few pictures I took of her before we headed out to see Dr. Traynham on Monday....
Her new "thing" doing funny things with her hands when I'm taking pictures. I love this one because it looks like she's waving!
We have also been working REALLY hard to break her of a habit that we started when she was only a few days old---swaddling. Kyndall Anne Hughes is the swaddle QUEEN!! She absolutely, positively cannot sleep without being wrapped up like a little mummy! I thought that by now, at almost 7months old, she would have long outgrown this habit, but she has proven me very wrong! I have to admit, I think I love it as much as she does for several reasons. She can be screaming at the top of her lungs and completely out of control and all we have to do is wrap her up tight in her velcro swaddle blanket and she IMMEDIATELY calms down, and usually falls asleep within about 5 minutes. I love that I have that ability and there's never any question about what to do when she is upset or tired. It has never failed us! People are amazed by the swaddle blanket's magical powers over her! =) I have started carrying one in our diaper bag and on several occasions I've whipped it out in restaurants, stores, and even once at a professional photo shoot! Hey, whatever works! The second reason I love it is because I don't worry about her flipping over onto her tummy at night, or moving too close to the bumpers in her crib. She can't move when she's swaddled, so it gives me great peace of mind at night. I don't really know why I'm so anxious to break her of this habit, but I am dreading the process. I have a feeling we will experience some sleepless nights as we try to transition to a swaddle free baby! If anyone has any experience with this, I would love to hear your opinion on it! Although my pediatrician says "I promise she won't go to to Kindergarten with a swaddle", I just feel like at some point she needs to learn to self soothe and sleep without it. Am I crazy for possibly getting rid of the one thing that has kept her sleeping through the night since she was only a few weeks old??? Here's a funny picture of how I've slowly tried to start breaking the habit. My philosophy is "one step at a time"!
For those of you not familiar with swaddle blankets, here's what it should look like!
On a more exciting note, we received a package this week! For those of you who know me, you know how much I love getting "real" mail! I was pleasantly surprised to open up the front door on Monday and find a package from our good friend Travis! Travis works for Wrigleys out in California and he often sends us care packages FULL of the newest Wrigleys candies and gum! So as soon as I saw his name on the return address label, I knew we were in for a treat---literally! Everything he sent us is brand new and not even on the market yet! So we get to enjoy it before you guys ever even know it exists! Here's a picture of our goodies....
These two flavors of gum are my new favorites! Apple Pie and Orange Creme Pop! Sooo yummy!!
Thanks, Travis!!! We love getting goodies from you!

been wondering all day if you finally got the medicine today? I hope so and hope you can get her on it real soon. I love the pics of her taken before she went to the dr...how cute!!!

Lawson has been on reflux medicine for 2 months or so now. His was not so much spitting up, but the fact that we could not lay him down or he would scream in pain for an hour! Which medicine did they give her? It has worked like a charm for him and I actually think he has outgrown his reflux. Also, I have a friend who weaned her daughter out of a swaddle and here is what she did ...http://thejenksfamilyblog.blogspot.com/2011/04/how-we.html
ReplyDeleteThere is a link on this post to another post, where she talked about it too...hope that helps.
