What would you spend $10,000 on??

Probably NOT this......

You're probably wondering what this is....so I'll tell you.  It's pure gold, a treasured gem, my liquid life-support.  Ok, that might be an extreme way to describe it, but it IS very important to me.  It's my medication that helps me manage my Crohn's Disease.  It's called Humira and each of these vials is a shot that's injected into my leg every week.  Most people only take the injection once every two weeks, but because my disease is so out of control, I get the pleasure of injecting myself weekly!  This is bittersweet because I absolutely HATE getting the shot, but yet I look forward to it because it does give me some relief from the pain for a few days.  So yes, you're looking at $10,000 worth of medication.  It came to me about an hour ago in a large cooler from the FedEx man.  In another 3 months, I'll get another $10,000 worth of little pens, and 3 months after that, and so on.  So if I'm doing my math correctly, in a year's time I will have consumed $40,000 worth of this precious gold.  Wow, that's more than some people's yearly salary, and I'm injecting it into my leg!  That really puts it into perspective.  It goes without saying that I am truly thankful for the gift of insurance!!  Without it, I surely would NOT be getting the Humira.  Thanks to Cigna, I only paid $5, and they paid the other $9,995.  Not a bad deal!!!  Anyway, I just wanted to share my excitement for the day and remind each of you to be thankful, even for the little things---like health insurance!!  =)

  1. I totally agree with you, AA. As a matter of fact, when I am talking with my single friends who are starting new relationships with guys, I often ask them two questions---do you like him, and, does he have a job/health insurance? LOL!! Having a chronic medical condition certainly makes you appreciate insurance and all of the little goodies that come along the way--shots, for you...new leg braces for me!
