On Tuesday, Kyndall had her 2 year check-up with Dr. Traynham. Since she's NEVER sick, we hadn't seen him in quite a while. He walked into the exam room with a Minnie Mouse sticker in hand, which immediately brought a smile to Kyndall's face! I love that he knows her so well!
Here are her stats from this appointment:
Height : 33 inches (21st %)
Weight : 24.5 pounds (33rd %)
BMI : 15.5 (24th %)
I was surprised to see that for the first time, she was in a higher percentile for her weight than height. In the past, she's always been much higher in the height category. She's still on the small side, but she's healthy and happy and Dr. Traynham assured me I'm doing a good job. What Mama doesn't love hearing that every now and then??
I took a few pictures before we left the house, though they left a lot to be desired. She was distracted by Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the TV behind me, and as usual, just not in the mood to cooperate for pictures! (Am I beginning to sound like a broken record? It seems that lately, every post comes with a similar disclaimer!)
Isn't she a bit young for this yet??
I also took a few on my cell phone at the doctor's appointment............
Totally clueless about what was about to happen!
She always loves to play with the gloves---Future dental hygienist, maybe??
Ok, this is the exact moment when she started to get suspicious! All was well until Dr. Traynham exited and the nurses with the "tray" entered!
Two shots and two HOURS later, THIS is what she was still doing!!! Literally, TWO HOURS! Dramatic much??
I tried everything, including taking her to Burger King for an ice cream cone and play time. None of it worked! She was still crying in this picture, despite being offered WHATEVER SHE WANTED! I was truly at my wits end by this point! I was very understanding for the first 30 minutes and offered her plenty of TLC, hugs, kisses, cuddles, etc.---But after that, I truly think she was just being dramatic! She would stop crying for a few seconds, then look down at her band-aid and say "boo boo" and start crying ALLLLL over again! Finally, I got smart and just removed the band-aids and voila, no more tears!! (Note to self : Band-aids = flashbacks = prolonged, unnecessary crying)
It's been a while since I've done a post like this, so here are some things I'd like to remember about Kyndall at this age.......
*She is wearing a size 4 diaper, a size 7 to 7.5 shoe, and wears mostly 18 or 24 month clothes.
*She continues to be a GREAT sleeper, usually going to bed around 9:30 and sleeping until at least 9:00 the next morning. She naps from 2:00 to 5:00 each day with no problem. Fingers crossed she'll keep this up for a while!
*She continues to be an extremely picky eater, which continues to stress me out to no end. A few of the things she will eat are mashed potatoes, cheese quesadillas, grilled cheese, fruit of any kind, fish sticks/chicken nuggets (only if dipped in ranch, ketchup, etc.), bologna sandwiches with lots of mustard, cheese pizza (most of the time), waffles, and of course junk food of any kind. She won't eat any veggies, no matter how hard I try to disguise them. She also won't eat any red meat or any type of pasta.
*Her favorite things to do are color with markers and crayons, play with stickers, read books, blow bubbles, play outside and of course watch her favorite shows. Right now her top choices are Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Jack's Big Music Show and Sid the Science Kid. She's also still a big Veggie Tales fan!
*She has a current obsession with all things Minnie Mouse! Anywhere she goes, one or more of her Minnie dolls goes too. She can spot the Minnie silhouette a mile away, and anything with three black circles that somewhat resemble it automatically becomes "Minnie" to her. She just celebrated her 2nd birthday with a Minnie Mouse themed birthday party, and we're starting to think about making our first trip to Disney World sometime in the next year or so!
*When you ask her what her favorite color is, she very enthusiastically says "pink!!" That's my girl!
*She's still working with her physical therapist, but she has made great improvements since we started 6 months ago!! She finally started walking at 19 months old, and there's been no stopping her since! Now we're working on climbing, running, jumping, kicking a ball, etc. We used to meet with Mrs. Ingrid twice a week, but now we're down to just twice a month! We usually meet her at the park and she works with Kyndall on all the things I mentioned above. She is also still wearing her AFO ankle braces, though I admit I've become a little lazy in enforcing it lately. She does fine without them, but Ingrid says it's still important for her to wear them so that her muscles are supported correctly when she's walking.
*She also meets with a speech therapist once a week and she's made great strides with that as well. She's still not talking in sentences, but she has about 30 or more individual words that she can say. I know she'll catch up, so I'm trying not to stress about it too much. She can identify all of her body parts (including her Ta Tas---Thanks Uncle Michael!!) and she can also make the appropriate sound for pretty much any animal you ask her about.
*We haven't started potty training yet, but I'm thinking in the next few months we'll get serious about it.
*We're still active in our Moms group and she enjoys interacting with all of the other kids and I enjoy the social time with the other Moms! We attend church every Sunday and I am also part of a ladies Bible study that meets every Tuesday morning at 9:00. Between the three, I think she's getting plenty of good social time and she seems to do great with other kids.
*A few months ago, Matthew started taking her to breakfast on Saturday mornings. It's just the two of them and Mommy isn't allowed to go. They usually leave around 10:00 and they're gone for a few hours. Kyndall loves it and I think Matthew enjoys having some one-on-one time with her. It also gives me a few hours to myself, which is always a welcomed treat! I hope they continue this little tradition for many years to come. I think it's super sweet!
As with every stage, I'm really loving this one!! There are definitely trying moments and they don't call it the terrible two's for no reason---But overall I think this is a fun age and I'm enjoying watching her little personality develop. She's like a little person now with a mind of her own. She understands everything I say, which is fun and kind of scary all at the same time! I love that I can ask her to do things and she does them. (Taking something to the trash, bringing me my phone, picking up her toys, etc.) As I said, there are definitely moments when I want to scream, but in general I think this is a great age! Matthew and I are having so much fun watching her grow, learn and develop into her own little being. If the next two years fly by as quickly as the past two did, I'm going to be in some serious denial!! I'm not ready for her to grow up!

hahahahahaha ta tas.. that is awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI have also found(when I worked in cubbies) that if you continue to ask a child about an injury they will ham it up.. but giving them love and then, for lack of a better word "ignoring', it. But still keeping an eye on it..
And I bet you just love her favorite color!

wow....lots of good info in this one!! The pic of her looking out from under her eyebrows is hilarious!!! She is so smart and I have no doubt she will catch up with all her skills and we will barely remember the delays in her motor skills and speech. She makes it up in so many other ways!! I miss ya'll and can't wait for another blog or better yet..seeing you in person!!
